Celebrating Biodiversity Day 2010

Marking the Richness and Diversity of Living Things All Around Us

We're competing against 4 other state properties and parks in a race against the clock to idenify as many different species as we can in the Park. Biodiversity Experts will have a base camp from which they will use identiying equipment and recording systems to log everything we find! Events run from 5pm Friday to 5pm Saturday and include the following:

9.30pm Friday - Bat Walk with District Conservation Officer & the Nature Team

Late Friday Night - Moth Trap Setting

4.30am Saturday - Dawn Chorus Walk

10am Saturday - Ranger Lead Mammal Hill Walk

Saturday Afternnoon - Plant Walks around the Park and Gardens with Head Gardener and Botanist

Saturday 3pm - Pond Dipping and Family Minibeast Hunt @ The Nature Centre

We'll also have various experts searching for other species such as butterflies, bees and bryophytes (thats a fancy term for mosses!) as well as Fungi and Birds.

A Grand Tour along the Derryveagh site, over the old route into the park , past the Castle and hiking to the head of the Glen. Not for the faint hearted!

Where a meal is available, cost is an aditional 10 Euro per person.
