IF YOU HAVE A YOUTH OR CHILDRENS GROUP CONTACT US AT 00-353-74-91-37698 FOR A GUIDED TOUR OF THE TRACKS OF GLENVEAGH OR FOR NATURE ACTIVITIES TAILORED TO YOUR NEEDS.

Our Nature and Outdoor Learning Centre is here to inspire an interest in and develop children’s appreciation for the natural world. The programme has been designed with National Schools in mind, covering many aspects of the Primary Science Curriculum, however the service is open to all groups of children and young people from 2-16 yrs. Our aim is to make learning fun and if there is a particular topic in which your group has interest, this can also be incorporated into the days activities.
The Nature and Outdoor Learning Centre is an accredited Discovery Primary Science Centre and offers 6 themed days to choose from, linked to the curriculum:
1. Nature Explorer – a general look at the wildlife all around us
2. Woodland Wonders – discovering the wonders of native Irish woodlands
3. Minibeast Discovery – a look into the mysterious world of insects, bugs and grubs
4. Wildflower Finding – finding and examining the beauty of native Irish wildflowers
5. Bogland Studies – discover this wonderful habitat and the plants and animals that call it home
6. Seashore Learning – exploring rock pools and marine life, a great chance to learn about the under water world. (This day is delivered on an outreach basis at a beach near to your school or groups meeting point)

We can also offer more informal Activity Fun Days which can include adventure walks, treasure hunts, specialist art and craft sessions and workshops tailored to your groups age, interest and needs. Days currently on offer are:
- Teddy Bears Picnic – fun, songs, games, arts and crafts for the little ones with a nature theme
- Treasure Hunts – can be designed to suit different ages and different times of the year i.e. Easter, St Patrick’s Day, Autumn etc. We provide a trail, clues and prizes with fun along the way
- Adventure Walks – A chance to learn the skills to explore in the wilderness more fully. Basic compass skills, map reading and the ethos of ‘leaving no trace’ are all covered.
- Specialist Art and Craft Sessions – Tailored to your group, we can offer full access to materials, resources and several activities based on a nature theme of your choice
- Bird Watching – a day spent up in the Glen viewing the birds of the park with a good change of spotting the Golden Eagle. We’ll provide guide books, binoculars and an expert guide, along with lunch and stories around the fire in the Old Stalkers Hut.
Activity days are available for all age groups and distances for walking can be tailored to suit age and abilities. We’d also love to hear if you have an idea for a themed day out and we’ll certainly see what we can do for you!
We promote active learning and believe firmly that all the senses should be provoked in order to achieve more effective learning of key environmental issues. Therefore all our sessions take a very hands on, practical approach, where we hope to make learning about Nature and the environment exciting, fun and relevant.
Outreach
We can also offer all our activities on an outreach basis, where our Outdoor Team can visit your school, youth group or children’s meeting place and bring as much of your chosen programme to you as we can. Please call us or e-mail for full information.
