Biodiversity Day at Glenveagh National Park

Celebrating National Biodiversity Week 

Re-inactment at The Castle “Step back in Time to 1902” with Trad Session

The Great Glen Discovery Day (to book email glenveagh-education@chg.gov.ie) we have some places available but cannot take bookings or answer queries after 2.00pm Friday the 25th May    

Sunday 27th May

Bus leaves the main car park at 11.30am and will take you to the head of the Glen, along with our Guides.

Enjoy a walk and hands on nature activities along the way , then relax by the campfire and enjoy some traditional music and toasting marshmallows in the Old Stalking Hut. (3.5km)

After lunch we’ll be taking a closer look at the River and everything that lives in it, with a chance to have a go at collecting samples of freshwater invertebrates—you’ll be amazed  at how many creatures make this place their home!

Children can complete a Nature  Explorer Log  Book and  will also do some fun nature based art using materials sourced from the Park. Your walk back to the castle is another 3.5km from here, which you can do at your leisure whenever you’re ready.

Price: 3 Adult, 2 Child      Pay on arrival at Visitor Centre

Bring your own picnic and plenty of drinks/snacks. The walk is 7 km in total.  Ticket includes shuttle bus back from the castle to the car park where your car awaits. Suitable clothing and footwear is essential . Children under 7 yrs or pushchairs not advised. Alternatively, walk to the Hut from the Castle leaving approx. 1 hour to get there.

Guides will be at the hut with activities from 12.30—2.30pm.

There will also be activities at the Log Cabin on 27th May from 1pm to 3pm
